Misty Coast - Transparent
Norwegian outfit Misty Coast have dived into a world of dreamy shoe gaze soundscapes with their latest single ‘Transparent’.
Misty Coast consists of Linn Frøkedal and Richard Myklebust, who are better known for also being a part of The Megaphonic Thrift. However, for their latest release, they have enlisted the help of Kim Åge Furuhaug (Orions Belte) on Drums and Emil Nikolaisen (Serena-Maneesh) on production. The pair have already released two critically acclaimed albums and received a Norwegian Grammy. This single is the latest installment lifted from their highly anticipated third album ‘When I fall From the Sky’ due out April 16th on Fysisk Format.
The perfect blend of simple guitar lines built beneath laid-back vocal melodies create a lazy, spaced out style of indie, reminiscent of something you might hear from Sunflower Bean or Pale Honey. Their psych-pop sound embodies ethereal ambient sounds, jangly guitars and haunting vocal melodies.
Buried beneath its sweet exterior, ‘Transparent’ is a song about someone hiding who they are and the lonely feeling of emptiness that occurs as a result. The idea is cleverly portrayed in the psychedelic purple music video showing a dancer in a morph-suit who loses sight of who they are and subsequently becomes invisible or ‘Transparent’.
‘Transparent’ opens with a full band slacker indie style and grows through to a bridge break-down section featuring vocal samples and reverse textures, transporting us to a world of electronica. This blend of styles is which is what sets Misty Coast apart from other classic pop currently in the charts.
