EP Review: Beaux – 'a love letter to the moments spent outside'
Dirty Hit’s newest hope, ambient mastermind Beaux, reminisces about better times on sophomore EP ‘a love letter to the moments spent outside’.
Carried by immersive soundscapes, ‘a love letter to the moments spent outside’ impresses with a creative take on synth pop. While all eight tracks come with their own sonic palette, they are tied together by tiny chirping birds guiding us through the motions. Beaux’s heartfelt vocals effortlessly ride the waves of an atmospheric production as he tells stories of finding confidence in new relationships, friendships and inspiration in Wes Anderson films. Talking about the sentiment behind the record, Beaux says: “The majority of my best memories have taken place outdoors in past summers, and last year, more than ever, it wasn’t really possible to meet with family and friends indoors, so EVERY good memory I made was outside.”
‘a love letter to the moments spent outside’, above all, showcases the different personalities of Beaux’s sound - Ranging from guitar-infused ‘i’ve got a best friend’ over ‘what’s the point?’s picture perfect pop hooks to the magnetic intimacy of ‘when I talk to you’. Beaux is a man of many talents, and, by the time he closes the EP with the heat-breaking lyricism of ‘scene on the train’, you’re deep in the trenches of his addictive sound spheres.
Following last year’s debut ‘I Don’t Want To Make It Alone, I Want To Make It With You’, Beaux’s sophomore EP really homes in on super catchy synth pop vibes and raises the bar with a knack for introspection that would make the 1975 jealous.
