Liverpool’s genre-fluid newcomer Pixey comes in hot with groove-infused new EP ‘Free To Live In Colour’.

Written, recorded and produced in Pixey’s bedroom, ‘Free To Live In Colour’ feels familiar with an exciting edge. At the end, it all comes down to her unique and extremely clever take on songwriting that sees Pixey take an original riff or beat only to disguise it underneath layers upon layers of masterful production. The result is an EP brimming with creative chaos, a fun-filled glimpse into the mastermind behind the art. As Pixey explains: “I wanted a collection of tracks which gave a quick snapshot into me and my brain - where I’m from, where I want to be and what I’m thinking about. I hope people can take something meaningful from it or simply have a dance.”

And dance you shall. From beat driven opener ‘Just Move’ over the electro pop stylings of ‘California’ to ‘The Mersey Line’ that thrills with a distinct country-twang, ‘Free To Live In Colour’ is anything but boring or complacent. Every track brings a new colour to the table, deepening the spectrum of Pixey’s sonic textures, and giving her free reign to grow into virtually any direction. This overarching sense of creative freedom comes full circle on the EPs title track that doubles as a transcendent closing number. Wrapped into a smokescreen of sparkly guitars, thick basslines and breath-taking vocals, ‘Free To Live In Colour’ perfectly summarises the record’s eclectic ethos while keeping it firmly sealed under the Pixey label of electrifying soundscapes infused with introspective lyricism.

Following 2019’s debut EP ‘Colours’, ‘Free To Live In Colour’ solidifies Pixey’s remarkable talent and immediately addictive sound. With a record that proves she can nail just about any genre, the sky is the limit for this astonishing artist.
