Canadian fire-starter Tate McRae solidifies her status as the future of pop with new EP ‘Too Young To Be Sad’.

Spanning six equally addictive tracks, ‘Too Young To Be Sad’ is everything you want from a pop record: Flawless hooks, spectacular sceneries and not a single note out of place.

From dark-pop opener ‘bad ones’ to nostalgic ballad ‘wish i loved you in the 90s’, on this EP, one sonic high chases another. Consistently upping the emotive scales throughout the course of the record, Tate has carved out an intoxicating sound for herself. A gorgeous blend of magnetic, slow-moving beats and soaring hooks, infused with a heart-on-sleeve lyricism that is as relatable as it is heart-breaking. “We could take it slower, wait until we’re older, but I might be somebody, you might not even know her,” Tate sings on most recent single ‘slower’ – a slow-burning track that finds her bargaining with love. It’s this song in particular that puts a magnifying glass on her striking vocal abilities and allows them to unfold their full potential as she moves from gentle verses into a heartfelt chorus and higher still into a bridge laced with immediacy.

Breakthrough single ‘you broke me first’ made Tate one of the most streamed female artist in the world; ‘Too Young To Be Sad’ proves that she is more than a one hit wonder. Delivering standout track after standout track and creating the most magnificent sonic landscapes, it seems there is no stopping the wildfire that is Tate McRae.
