SURFACES - 'Wave of You'
Viral pop duo Surfaces kick off their 2021 with buoyant new single ‘Wave Of You’, the early and bright taste of summer everyone’s craving.
Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki first met on DM after connecting with each other on Soundcloud. Soon after, the two Texas college student’s innocently began to make music from their bedrooms unsuspecting of what the future had in store for them. Five years later, with a Platinum single under their belt and having just collaborated with Elton John, one of the biggest music legends out there, the rising hitmakers sweep us off our feet once more with breezy new single ‘Wave Of You’.
In true Surfaces fashion, the new track feels just like a sunny and chill day by the ocean. However, this time around, the duo have added a new layer onto their sound by incorporating a trap-like beat and a bright guitar-led melody that give ‘Wave Of You’ an almost nostalgic emo vibe. Touching on the subject of falling for someone and realising the place they hold in one’s life, the lyrics are incredibly relatable and small moments are highlighted with brilliant production details.
The duo, very cleverly, manages to place feelings and sensations within their tracks just like when they sing “I think I’m caught up in the wave of you, of you” as the production takes a moment to breath and leaves only a small guitar stroke mimicking someone who has just a second to take a deep breath before getting caught by the next wave in the ocean.
To accompany the track, Colin and Forrest also present a carefree music video that embodies the band’s blend of vibrant production and ‘no shirt, no shoes, no problem’ energy. With ‘Wave Of You’ as their first single of the year, Surfaces not only steps into 2021 with the most positive vibes possible but also leaves the door open for a whole new universe of music that is guaranteed to make everyone’s summer so much better, especially after the turbulence of the past year.
