Laurel – 'You’re The One'

Following last year’s EP ‘Petrol Bloom’, dark pop powerhouse Laurel returns with captivating new single ‘You’re The One’.

Carried by shimmering synths and fluid beats, ‘You’re The One’ reflects on the dangers of co-dependency. “It speaks to all of our addictions and crutches. Our ‘true loves’ in moments of necessity,” Laurel explains. “When people, drugs, alcohol, sex, and ideologies become that one thing that could save us, or that we can take refuge in temporarily from our human pain. In those sober moments it is quite understandably transparent and far too intense for the depth of the relationship, leaving us feeling out of control. However, in the moment we are totally fixated by each of our own ‘the one’s.” The track’s layered production and tangible textures build a hazy environment that allows Laurel’s distinctive vocals to take the spotlight. Dark and resonant, they breathe life into ‘You’re The One’s gorgeously melodic structures and uplifting chorus.

With a calm confidence and an air of immediacy, ‘You’re The One’ announces the arrival of a new EP, one that will see Laurel dive even further into the addictive depths of synth-pop. If you aren’t already buried knee-deep in her stunning discography, it’s high time to jump in and ride the tidal waves of Laurel’s intoxicating take on sonic nostalgia.
