Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes - 'My Town ft. Joe Talbot'

British rock band Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes are back with their new single and video ‘My Town’, featuring Joe Talbot of IDLES. It’s as punchy as we’d hoped and as energetic as we can take, giving a voice to our collective frustrations and feelings of being unheard.

‘My Town’ is rocking and riffing, angry and empowering, its lyrics made up of frustrations and filled with metaphors. This collaboration between two of the most popular artists within our modern punk scene is thrilling, exciting and grounding. Frank said about ‘My Town’: “It’s easy to dissociate when it’s someone else’s problem but we are each responsible for keeping the streets clean, looking out for our fellow neighbours and acting with kindness and respect as we walk through life.  We can look into this town and see the seedy underbelly, the dirt, the disdain, the undercurrent of hate and despair.  And then we are reminded that ‘My Town’ looks just like yours, and no one gives a fuck at all and if we don’t start looking after ourselves soon then we are all going to be in big trouble.”

The tone of ‘My Town’ is just loud enough and only nearly over screams its important message, a risk that’s always present within modern punk rock music. It’s tempting to scream loud, bang the drums and go wild on the guitar pedals, but the risk is to let the music and lack of structure overpower the actual message of dissatisfaction. With their experience built up in the past few years, both Frank Carter and Joe Talbot have mastered that skill and translated their feelings of discontent in a punchy and spot on track.

The video accompanying ‘My Town’ translates the bags of energy Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes bring to their live shows and makes us miss their shows even more than we already did. Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes performed 'My Town' for the first time live on the Amazon Music Sessions Rock Scene takeover on Twitch, supported by WARGASM.
