Jodi - 'Hawks'
A pensive and new alternative folk pop track, ‘Hawks’ is the latest release from Jodi, and the last one ahead of the upcoming album, out on the 16th of July via Chicago’s Sooper Records.
The song comes with a video showing childhood memories and heartwarming videos of fun days out and the start of what has proven to have become a fruitful career surrounded by instruments and musical talents.
The multi-instrumentalist has a voice soft and honest but with a sharp edge. The slowly deceiving and ever changing compositions that bind together the soundscape are what give the song its hook, its uniqueness. ‘Hawks’ is a dangling but determined song, one that talks about wandering. “It’s about walking around Chicago with eyes open and headphones on, holding a deep affection for public transit, listening to Big Thief, and trying to make sense of a private experience of the world.”
Intimate, yet open. It is as if we are looking into someone’s life from a distance, yet at the same time we are a, rather big, part of it. The video is made up of hours of old family film that line up lyrics with past events. The overall image and its sound form a beautiful snapshot that coincides with Jodi’s intimate style of songwriting. We can only hope that the upcoming album will be filled with more of these beautiful snapshots.
