Linzi Clark - 'Balancing Act'

Following on from her debut single ‘The Kitchen’ released back in May, Scottish singer/songwriter Linzi Clark returns with the heart-warming ballad ‘Balancing Act’.

The track is a candid admission on the struggles of belonging, personal identity, and sexuality. It was penned in one of the lockdowns alongside producer Bovine who provides dreamy backing music and crystal-clear production to accompany Clark’s ethereal vocals.

Whilst ‘Balancing Act’ might chart the difficulty of unearthing a true source of personal belonging, vocally, the Paisley singer/songwriter has no such dilemma. Stylistically, her solo work could be filed alongside greats like Sharon Van Etten and Joni Mitchell but as she’s shown with her Electronic project DRIFT, there’s no necessity to confine her style to one genre as her unique and delicate delivery can be welcomed with open arms across multiple genres.

Clark explains that her second single came together quite easily “It was a very free-flowing process that felt very organic – the song seemed to present itself to me rather than me having to go in search of it. The lyrics were easy because it was my story, my truth in a sense.”

It's selfish in a sense to crave more songs like this given the onerous subject matter at the heart of ‘Balancing Act’ but it would be a blessing to hear Linzi Clark release more songs woven with such unequivocal sentiment in the not-too-distant future.
