GAYLE - 'ur just horny'
17y/o chart-topping GAYLE unapologetically calls out a platonic friend in brand new single ‘ur just horny’.
a… b… c… d… e… f… if you were ready to continue reading out the alphabet you are certainly not in tune with “the kids these days”, but if you immediately screamed out a big “U, AND YOUR MOM […]”, you are more than familiar with what we’re about to share.
Following smashing single ‘abcdefu’, 17y/o Nashville based GAYLE doubles down on the pop-punk FU vibes in new head bopping single ‘ur just horny’. Touching on the blurred lines between a platonic friendship and a romantic and sexual relationship, the song features the young artist roaring vocals against soaring electric guitars and drums that will make you want to turn up the volume and shout at the top of your lungs.
Produced by Daylight (gnash, Shawn Mendes) and Pete Nappi (Thirty Seconds To Mars, Madison Beer, Shinedown), and written by GAYLE, Daniel Kyriakides (Sylvan Esso, K. Flay), and Sara Davis, ‘ur just horny’ begins with a pretty calm guitar riff that grows along with the development of this infuriating story incorporating the classic pop punk elements and exploding in what can only be described as a middle finger to your ex(friend) in the incendiary chorus.
“‘ur just horny’ is about the time I crossed the line in a friendship that I thought was platonic for years,” says GAYLE. “After crossing the line I noticed that they started treating me differently - they weren't as nice and outgoing and honestly I couldn’t recognize them anymore. I started catching them in little lies and my mind couldn’t help but wonder what else they’ve lied to me about before. Writing ‘ur just horny’ for me was coming to that realization that they didn’t want to be my friend they just wanted to get into my pants - and that hurt.
We’ve all had to navigate teenage relationships where things have gotten pretty messy so it’s no surprise that the majority of us can relate to the lyrics. Additionally, the familiar sound of punk infused pop that has been roaming around the charts in the past year allows this song to be such a nice followup to GAYLE’s first #1 (which also made her the first 17y/o at the top of the charts since 2016).
Having made her way to the spotlight thanks to the viral potential of her music and with the seal of approval of the industry, is certainly one of the most exciting young talents of the year and we cannot wait to see what other bangers the start in the making has in store for us.
