Lizzy McAlpine - 'all my ghosts'
‘all my ghosts,’’ is an evocative exploration of moving on from previous heartbreak, as McAlpine delves into the haunting of her past relationships.
Beginning as a slow blend of warm, rich guitars that her vocals sit softly on top of, ‘all my ghosts’’ quickly progresses into perfectly executed upbeat indie. Cleverly layered percussion, bass guitars and synth riffs coming together for what can only be described as a song out of a movie, McAlpine has created a soundtrack for anyone trying their best to shake off the past as they enter new romantic endeavors.
The Philadelphia based artist paints a picture with her endearing lyricism that charmingly romanticizes the normalities of her experience; ‘’You got a slurpee for free, I caught you looking at me in a 7-Eleven, under fluorescent lights.’’ Whilst still encapsulating all McAlpine’s’ genuine sentiment, the lyrics give a fun youthfulness that compliments the track flawlessly.
Including the music videos for her earlier released singles ‘doomsday’ and ‘erase me’, ‘all my ghosts’ video, directed by Gus Black (Phoebe Bridgers, Sheryl Crow), marks the latest visual entry in what will come together to create a short film, due for release alongside her upcoming album on 8th April.
With McAlpine saying "I want to give my fans something different with each record, because I'm different with each record. I want to always be growing and moving forward as an artist", it’s clear she's already achieving what she set out to do. Not only with such an impressive new track, but bringing it all to life cinematically too, the release of her album ‘five seconds flat’ is highly anticipated
