Kid Apollo - 'leave her'

Brixton trio kid apollo captures the anxieties of youth in their freshly released single ‘leave her’.

Kid apollo is a story about three incredibly creative best friends who follow their passion - no matter how cliche it sounds. Singer and producer Jimmy HM and twin brothers (and producers) Felix and Theo Ratigan bonded over their love of UK hip-hop. The trio’s history goes back to high school where they started making beats on their laptops for the first time.

‘Leave her’ together with its accompanying self-directed video show a noticeable growth from those times giving us a sneak peek into the trio’s forthcoming EP 'u the real star here’. Their well-acclaimed debut EP 'all i think about', released in 2021, also came out together with videos directed by young artists themselves. Taking control of the whole creative process becomes a signature approach of the underground trio. With authenticity as a central value, their core principle is to stay true to yourself and not get swept by trends. “You have to do your own thing and trust your talent,” says Felix.

‘Leave her’ tells us a narrative about life choices and uncertainty of the future, representing the doubts and anxieties of the young generation. The feeling one gets “when you’re being pulled in two different directions but don't know which way will sit best with you” permeates the core of the song.

Hard to imagine a more suitable sound to represent the feeling mentioned before than the shuffling beat and trebling guitars of ‘leave her’. The crackling vinyl sound and ambient electronic movements immediately transport listeners to the atmosphere of an elicit romance movie from the VHS recording.

Justly bearing the title of contemplative R&B, ‘leave her’ is one of those tunes putting you in the mood to grab a cup of tea and watch the rain reflecting on your life decisions. The track is part of kid apollo's upcoming EP, 'u the real star here,' which will be released on November 19th.
