Carpark – ‘Don’t Want You’
Rock band Carpark celebrate the power of self-respect in unapologetic breakup anthem ‘Don’t Want You’.
The London-based 3-piece consists of lead singer and bassist Scottie, drummer Loda, and guitarist Hattie. From playing their first gig in a friend’s garage only last year, to opening for Lauran Hibberd on her UK tour, the indie rock band have made notable accomplishments since their musical debut in April 2021. Since releasing their first EP ‘The World Ended in 2012’ this March, 2022 has been a busy year for Carpark, consisting of various festival appearances over the summer, as well as two London headline shows. The trio’s talent has not gone unnoticed, with the self-managed band gaining themselves features on Jack Saunders’ Radio 1 Future Artists show and Spotify’s New Music Friday UK.
Following their recent single ‘Not The Perfect Start’, ‘Don’t Want You’ is Carpark’s latest release. Showcasing infectious guitar riffs and strong drumbeats, the pop-rock anthem acts as the perfect reminder of knowing your self-worth and recognising when boundaries have been crossed. Co-written by Tony Burrata and Michael Hemming, the single cleverly contrasts the resentment towards the futility of a failing relationship with an undeniable sense of empowerment found through personal growth. On the meaning behind the new record, Scottie states:
“Don’t Want You’ is about the moment you realise you’re fed up with hearing the lies and excuses from the person you’re in a relationship with and recognising you’re probably better off by yourself.”
The 90’s inspired ‘Don’t Want You’ music video, which comes out on Tuesday, features the band as they parade around Loda’s bedroom in green morph suits. Directed by Roger Spy, the energetic video serves as a cathartic release and celebrates newfound independence.
