Jess Fitz - 'You Said No'

London-based pop-funk Jess Fitz shares empowering new single “You Said No”, a head-bopping testament to realising it’s better to be by one’s self than to be with the wrong company.

It is fair to say that most of us have found ourselves in a place where we crave human connection and attention, whether that is in the shape of a relationship, a friendship or just an acquaintance. From the need to feel listened to and taken care of to the hunger for being loved, pretty much everyone fantasies about having someone to fulfil these desires. However, more often than not, we face rejection and we have to settle for being proud of having the courage of chasing the things we want and knowing we deserve better. This is exactly what Jess Fitz’s new single “You Said No” is all about.

Plugging into the renaissance of disco and funk with modern pop qualities, “You Said No” is an unapologetic confession about being an “independent self indulgent women [that has] so much power over [her] own life”. Shamelessly inspired in Jess’ own love life and experience, the track offers a refreshing and honest perspective on rejection and self respect. With hypnotic key melodies, a catchy bass line and a groove-driven guitar riff supporting the artist’s smooth yet powerful vocals, the single is guaranteed to make you want to stand up and dance the night away while singing along.

In her own words, Jess explains the way the track was conceived — “To be honest, I get rejected by love interests pretty regularly. It always stings, but I’ve realised that ultimately it’s their loss, and I’d rather be alone than with someone who’s not right for me. So the song is a celebration of that rejection, and how you can be happy and fulfilled even without a romantic partner in your life. We love to see it!

Produced by Sophie Ackroyd (Beth McCarthy, lleo, Kings Elliot), the dance-pop self-aware anthem showcases a vulnerable side of Fitz’s we are familiar with but we haven’t quite seen before. Her provocative lyrics mix perfectly with the instrumentals giving the track a mysterious yet club-pop spirit to the track that we cannot resist.
