Canadian songstress fanclubwallet releases eponymous lead single from her long-awaited and highly anticipated debut album.

Hannah Judge, the Canadian indie pop artist widely known as fanclubwallet has at last put out her debut album ‘You Have Got To Be Kidding Me’. The eponymous lead single has taken to the stage, front and centre with its new video. Having started this particular project back at the start of the pandemic in 2020, since releasing seven singles and one EP, the talent has grown rapidly to an ultimate point of amazement and we can finally wrap our hands around a fanclubwallet album.

The style behind the video creates a story, like watching a short film sucking you in through its aesthetic. It’s simple and wholesome, following a casual day of bowling with friends and a trip to the park, accompanied by a soft backing track of smooth vocals and a simple beat.

Although released in May, you can’t help but feel for Autumn; the orange hair, red guitar and a pick up truck, all constructing this autumnal outside ambience with grey skies and bare trees. Perhaps reflecting on the overall undertone of the songs true meaning. With a clear indication to some sort of verbal disagreement, the context of this song was put to rest by the artist herself. “Sometimes people can be really mean to you and try to pass it off as a joke, that’s what ‘You Have Got To Be Kidding’ is about. It’s about reflecting on ways you’ve been mistreated”.

A sure topic for all listeners for sure, having to pretend a joke is a joke when deep down it might have hit upon something real. But like many, this song is a perfect outlet to express those feelings and what makes this song great is the comprehensive inspiration. A flawless track on a flawless album dedicated to breaks ups, heartache and spirited adolescence.
