In Conversation With #191 - Dehd

Chicago based three piece Dehd have just released their much anticipated album ‘Blue Skies’ on Fat Possom.

Showcasing their trademark combination of heart naggingly infectious melodies, Ramones on steroids choruses and harmonies so full bodied they sound like Jason Balla and Emily Kempf have someone willed not just their lungs but their kidneys, intestines and more to sing along.

Dehd are currently spending their summer taking the US by storm, selling out raucous shows in NYC, LA, San Francisco, Austin and Chicago and earning raves as a result. They will then hit the road in August to play a clutch of major music festivals across the UK and EU, before returning in November for headline shows of their own.

They took a moment to talk to us about how the album came together.

Hey there DEHD - how are you? So your album is finally here - how does it feel to have it out there in the world?
So exciting!!!! Exuberant really.

It is called ‘Blue Skies’ - what is the meaning behind that?
Looking for hope in moments of global despair can be as simple as turning your face up to a blue sky and taking a breath, recalibrating and continuing onwards, friends and lovers by your side.

Where was the album recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the creative process you are happy to share with us?
Recorded in Chicago at Jamdek and a little bit at Sonic Ranch in Texas.

4. What are the key themes and influences on the album?

Hope, having fun with your friends and sexiness.

Do you have a favorite lyric on the album? If so, which one and why?
One of my favorite lines is actually one of Jason’s - “when will I feel it? will I believe it when I do?” from the track “Window.” Not sure what he was referencing but I like to think of it as when will I fall in love again? It’s been so long !

If they album could be the soundtrack to any film - which one would it be and why?
Mmmm not to release any secret info but we are in beginning stages of making a film and it literally WILL be the soundtrack wink wink wink!

Now the album is out there - what next for you?
Massive touring and partying hehe
