LIFE - 'The Drug'
LIFE unveil enthralling new cut ‘The Drug’.
Hailing from the city of Hull, thrilling rock quartet, LIFE, stun with their dynamic cuts that feature heavy guitar sounds, brash vocals, and utterly immersive soundscapes.
Acting as a teaser for their highly-anticipated third album, North East Coastal Town (due out 19th August 2022), their latest offering ‘The Drug’ features driving instrumentation and boppy vocalisations and sits tightly in the same musical vein as the like of Idles and Yard Act.
Blending unique textures of punk and gritty rock, ‘The Drug’ highlights the quartet’s staple rock sound that has thrust them into the limelight on the up-and-coming music scene.
Speaking on the new release, frontman Mez Green divulges, “‘[‘The Drug’] is, for me, realising that loved ones and those that love you, no matter where you are, can always be present. I'd never really believed this before and whilst this purity is at the lyrical heart of the song musically the band decided to inject flecks of dance, pop, harmonics, and dirty pulses to give the song drive, repetition and jerk-ability.”
The prominent raspy vocals overly thrumming bass lines and pulsing percussion that make for an infectious earworm. Boasting cleverly penned lyrics that detail the consuming nature of romanticism Green declares “'The Drug I needed has always been here, the drug I needed has always been near''. Acting almost as an ode to the deep feelings prescribed to the protagonists’ lover, ‘The Drug’ details the all-consuming love of a relationship and touches on the realisation of feeling wanted by your nearest and dearest.
The track is accompanied by visuals (directed by Luke Hallett and drummer Stewart Baxter) that follows the lives of individual creatives, from a painter to a dancer and a literature buff. With almost eerie pans and trippy snap-shot scenes, ‘The Drug’’s music video offers a walk-through tour of the band's (and their directors’) artistic prowess.
With a number of festivals set for the Summer and a headline UK tour in October, LIFE are perfectly prepared for an exciting year ahead.
