Emotional Oranges - 'Make Me Wanna'
An intoxicating ride, ‘Make Me Wanna’ shows that Emotional Oranges are back with a vengeance.
Heat. Sweat. Sex.
A golden trio never too far away when you’re listening to Emotional Oranges.
The provocative duo, made up of the cryptically named A and V, have produced an intoxicating single with ‘Make Me Wanna.’ The beat is so simple its perfection is almost laughable. It’s gorgeous – a repeating drum line giving it a foundation, a guitar riff giving it motion, luscious chords laid on top to complete a beautiful texture.
A and V are their usual selves – understated, giving you just enough to keep you begging for more. V’s soft vocals cut through the mix with such direction that it takes your breath away – ‘you make me wanna / get all up on ya’ she coos in the chorus. It’s like you can feel her breath on your neck. You’re right there with her. A’s performance is just as remarkable. His Drake-influenced vocals have that 2022 apathy, but everything about him is melodious. ‘Make Me Wanna’ feels like a club track for the depths of summer, it’s all atmosphere and beat.
The two have refused to let their faces or names get out there. They’re only ever seen wearing some kind of mask, or sunglasses at a minimum (an amazingly effective way to conceal one’s identity). Their names have never gotten out into the press. It’s some good ole’ fashioned mystery, which undoubtedly adds to the air of sexy aloofness the two cultivate in their music so well.
Having released a new album, The Juicebox, last year, it feels like too much to hope for that ‘Make Me Wanna’ signals another big project in the works. Either way, it’s an addictive listen.
