Jake Whiskin - 'Heatwave'
Leeds songsmith Jake Whiskin brings a dosh of nostalgia on latest single ‘Heatwave’.
Combining a mixture of Big Thief and Manchester Orchestra - Jake brings a new take on a vintage sound. With delicate vocals mixed with old school indie-pop sounds. With subtle layers of feedback providing the perfected back to allow this song to float along perfectly in all it’s grace.
An anthemic track fit for summer road trips - with 90s style guitars it certainly hits the musical sweet spot.
Jake Whiskin on ‘Heatwave’:
“I can sometimes have a bit of a self-destructive side and this is what this song is about really, spending time with people that aren’t good for you - ‘You drive me insane but make it fun’ kind of embodies that sentiment. It’s a pretty anthemic, 90’s sounding track so I wanted to balance that with something a little darker which was inspired by Ava Adore era Smashing Pumpkins. In the studio we were layering lots of feedback and distorted synths to have some juxtaposition against a song that’s otherwise a pretty big pop track.”
