Introducing #242 - Caity Baser

Let us introduce you to Southampton based pop artist Caity Baser - who has just released her new track ‘X&Y’ - which was produced by Lilly Allen's producers Future Cut and hitmaking producer Digital Farm Animals.

She's only 20 years old, and the year before last she was working in her local Co-Op in Southampton. One night she put up a TikTok and went to bed, waking to millions of likes and a voicemail from a top-flight music management company looking to sign her.

Outspoken, sometimes brash, singing brutally honest lyrics filled with british slang over hooky, catchy pop songs, including previous single Friendly Sex. But Caity is definitely a GenZ role model, having developed a fanbase of millions on tiktok; the foundation of most of her popularity so far. It has been crucial in her rise to success.

Caity took a moment to talk to us about her music.

So your track ‘X&Y’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
X&Y is about someone going round and telling everyone that they’re your ex when actually we were NEVER TOGETHER so you're just my why? Like why on earth did I waste my time on someone who isn’t even my ex !! So silly. why do we do these things. Oh well, I made a banger out of it hehe.

Where are you from and what are your favorite things to do there?
I’m from Southampton but live in Brighton at the moment. Brighton is the best - it’s definitely my home now. My favourite thing to do is go for a cycle along the seafront and listen to music. Also I love swimming so living right next to the sea is the best thing ever for me. I'm a little ocean baby.

What are the key influences when it comes to your music?
The key influence is my life and what I go through. Does that make me sound up myself? But I don’t really talk about or deal with my emotions and things. I find it much easier to write a song about it and help other people too. So every song of mine is about something that has happened. Also it makes performing so fun and easy because I genuinely mean everything that I’m saying. Which is cool.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
I would describe it as honest, funny, banger-worthy British pop.

Now the track is out there, what next for you?
MORE MUSIC!!!!!! I’m in the studio everyday making something new so there is way more to come. Also I’m performing at reading and Leeds at the end of the month which is literally a dream come true. Then after that I’ve got my two sold out headliners which is also going to be amazing. WHAT A FUN TIME!!!
