Pixey - 'I'm Just High'
Dream Pop has been taking over the radio waves recently, and Liverpool based artist Pixey is at the forefront of this dream pop invasion. Her latest track, ‘I’m Just High’, is sunshine in a record, accompanied by a groovy guitar riff. A very fitting release amidst the UK heatwave.
‘I’m Just High’ is the third song self-produced Pixey has released over the past few months. It signifies the release of a bigger body of work, Dreams, Pains & Paper Planes, that is set to come out 30th September.
‘I’m Just High’ is more of a ‘grower’ than a ‘shower’, needing a few listens to really get into it. But after a few playthroughs, the danceable instrumentals and catchy lyrics pull you in; the perfect recipe for a great pop song.
Despite feeling like summer in a song, ‘I’m Just High’ tackles themes of heartbreak and an inability to move on from someone. Pixey says that she likes mixing upbeat, groovy beats with lyrics about personal struggles which ‘I’m Just High’ executes perfectly. The honest and relatable lyricism of the track, which Pixey describes as one of her ‘most honest songs to date’, fits well with the young, carefree feel of her discography.
Pixey's often playfulness doesn’t just stop at her lyricism. ‘I’m Just High’ sees the artist experiment with textures in her music. The layers of funky guitar riffs, pretty vocals and glittery chimes in ‘I’m Just High’ make it a true mix of dreaminess and pop. Enticing you into Pixey’s spirited dream world.
Pixey’s name really does what it says on the tin. Creating glittery music that fits the beautiful sunshine we’ve seen this summer. I’m Just High is a great introduction to the rising star’s music and an exciting release ahead of her mini album. Let’s hope ‘Dreams, Pains & Paper Planes’ is as enchanting as this summer track.
