Lucy McWilliams – ‘Break My Own Heart’
Irish singer-songwriter Lucy McWilliams explores the fear of letting your guard down, in candid new single ‘Break My Own Heart’.
With over 13 million Spotify streams, and support from platforms including Hotpress and Official Charts, Dublin-born Lucy McWilliams is quickly gaining recognition within the music world. The now London-based artist first made a name for herself through featuring on Malaki’s record ‘Fair Play’, an unconventional take on a hip-hop track, which amassed over 8 million streams on Spotify alone. Lucy’s debut solo track ‘Runaway’ gained radio attention on a national scale, establishing a promising start for the upcoming artist.
After supporting Arlo Parks at the end of 2021, Lucy has since performed to audiences across the UK and Europe, having recently played at The Great Escape Festival in Dublin and Brighton, as well as Oberkampf Festival in Paris. Following releasing a number of singles over the past 2 years, with the most recent being demos ‘The Woman In Me’ and ‘Medication’, Lucy is set to unveil her latest record, ‘Break My Own Heart’ on August 19th.
The track showcases Lucy’s ethereal vocals, as she describes how personal insecurities can impact serious relationships. The emerging pop artist combines authentic lyricism with dreamy production to capture the complexity of being vulnerable with others. Lucy rawly expresses how such difficulty surrounding being honest about our own feelings can stem from the fear of getting hurt by those closest to us, writing ‘Maybe you’re scared if I see you sad, I’ll go and look for someone else’. Much like her previous work, ‘Break My Own Heart’ highlights the 22-year-old’s forward-thinking approach, as she considers the negative effects of being overly guarded about our emotions.
With upcoming festival dates in Ireland, including Electric Picnic and Ireland Music Week, it seems that we can expect to hear much more from Lucy in the future.
