Having been both a vocalist and a visual artist, London-based musicianWillowKayne shows the audience how the true spirit of old school jungle finds itself in synergy with irresistible pop in her new single ‘Mr. Universe’. In just 18 months,Willowsucceeded to share with the world her postmodern view on nowadays pop music boasting spontaneity infused with a sense of anarchy in her tracks. Her hot off-the-fire debut EP ‘Playground Antics’ was riotously received in 2022, followed by singles ‘Final Notice’ and ‘White City’. Being raised by a father who loved hip-hop and house, as well as a mother who produced videos for Erasure and the Prodigy, the young artist's upbringing certainly left its mark onWillows's passion for creating tunes as well as visual and music tastes.
Anyways, ‘Mr.Universe’ embeds the earliest influences in young artists’ music symbolically linking generations by featuring a veteran of drum’n’bass General Levy along with Toddla T. Starting with mystically sounding vocals the track warms you up towards the true jungle sounds of club and carnival alongside jumpy piano chords and triumphant horns recorded in Jamaica. The symphony of live instruments accompanied by a classic bassline gives a listener a truly multi-dimensional experience. If one wants to imagine a song “to dance to while the world is on fire” ‘Mr. Universe’ definitely does the job.
After her triumphant sets at this year’s Glastonbury and London’s All Points East festivals, the young artist is getting ready to surprise her fans with a multi-sensory show at London’s XOYO on the 29th of September 2022. Keeping a mystery around what to expect from the headliner’s performance,Willow’s attentiveness to visual arts mixed with a passionate rebel-pop sound promise the experience to be a very special one.
