Regal Cheer - 'Ante'
‘Ante’ is Regal Cheer’s latest single which discusses the repetition of day-to-day life and the frustrations of these cycles.
Starting in the pandemic this Indie-Punk duo is now releasing their debut album ‘Cans’ after 3 years. The pandemic did restrict the music industry however Regal Cheer remained productive during this phase as they released 8 singles before this EP. Their latest EP adds up to 4 minutes and 30 seconds, with their latest single ‘Ante’ being 1 minute and 43 seconds long, which challenges the cycle of albums as Regal Cheer’s songs require a short attention span for the listeners who want to critique the cycle of the 9 to 5. In total the album is short and snappy as it clocks in to 17 minutes. Because the album is shorter too it shows how there is no filler or meaningless song.
With the roomates, Harry focusing on vocals and the guitar and Max on the drums, there is a variety of indie-punk on this EP, ‘Ante’ and ‘Castanets’ are more guitar driven with smoother vocals, which is why it is refreshing to listen to ‘Behavioural Patterns’ as it is definitely the most shouty track yet and I can see many people in the future tours will be shouting along with this. This just shows the bands versatility within the genre. Each of these songs are aggressive in the perfect way and I know for certain many listeners will let out their frustrations of the same day to day life.
“You’ve not been who you want to be for days and days, and weeks and weeks.’
Their lyrics are so bold and straight to the point that is hard to miss their critique on the cycles of habit, this is a judgement on work, having the same conversations every day, discussing meals and daily life where we do the same things. The music video for ‘Ante’ is a further critique of this as when it begins it starts in the kitchen with a plate full of pots which shows the frustration as the job to clean them never ends, just like working from 9 to 5.
“I see no difference in the way you behave day to day”
So, drop out of your 9 to 5 and head down and listen to the new unmissable album ‘Cans’ on the 3rd of February and make sure you book the day off for their album release tour.
