Eloise - 'Drunk on a Flight'
Eloise announces her coming of age debut album with her latest single ‘Drunk on A Flight’ which is a deep dive into the complexities of love and relationships.
Eloise’s debut EP ‘This Thing Called Living’ came in 2019 which introduced to jazz-tinged rhythm of her honeyed tones. Billie Eilish supported Eloise as she covered ‘Subside’ on Instagram. 2 years after this the EP ‘Somewhere In-Between’ was released, which is a deeply romantic, nine track collection recorded with Bruno Major. This EP is billed as “a growing pains EP” as Eloise explores emotional grey areas which blends with the warmth of acoustic guitar with electronic production.
Even though 2021 was filled with professional success for Eloise, she was struggling after the breakup of a long-term relationship in early 2022. Then leaving London for her US tour, this trip was crucial as she missed her return flight. Stranded in L.A. she was persuaded to join her former friend Max Margolis in the studio, where they wrote songs to pitch to major pop artists like Miley Cyrus. This made Eloise excited about music again which kick-started her new wave of creativity, as she says, “if you let go of your ego, you’re even freer.”
‘We broke up, when we woke up, cause it had to end’.
‘Drunk on a Flight’ sees Eloise broadening her horizons and developing a much wider palette of sounds. This is a coming of age album about embracing the movement; a heartbreak record which empowers listeners to get into their feelings even if they are messy or complicated.
‘We’d just make up again, with a hint of resentment’.
‘Giant Feelings’ is inspired by a line from Lena Dunham’s series ‘Girls’, the song has a synth-powered chorus which nails the fury of being left pining following a breakup. Another song ‘Make It Better’ from this album finds Eloise lingering over a situationship which is powered by a country rhythm. The next jazzy-pop song ‘Pretend’ which tackles the guilt when a relationship is ended. However ‘Therapist’ is a sorry-not-sorry diss track skewing emotional co-dependency with kiss-offs like; “You’re acting like a boy but I fell for a man.”
‘I look for you’.
Eloise’s feather-light material with a comforting timelessness with universality despite confessional lyrics that deal in specifics, ‘I got so drunk on that fight, couldn’t tell day from night’ and ‘In every man I meet, I look for you.” Eloise says that her song writing has always been honest and raw because she explores all the stages of emotion. For Eloise herself this single and album will represent the regards of embracing the chaos of the universe. Split-second decisions shape your path and therefore influencing who you become in the future.
‘I’m not me without you.’
Set alarms for April the 14th for Eloise’s debut, and maybe this album will influence who you become and the future you inhabit.
