Red Rum Club - 'Godless'
A clever twist on crime that can only be accredited to cult-classic The Shining, indie stalwarts Red Rum Club have concocted their own twist on western-cum-alternative rock that ties together Tarantino-esque filmic vibes and the undeniable prowess of their Blossoms-sounds (think “Eleanor”).
Hailing from Liverpool, the sextet finds themselves in the companionship of outfits such as The Wombats, Circa Waves and The La’s – whose influence on the band can be found seeped throughout their jilty, upbeat use of instrumentation.
Claiming they are “Godless”, their latest approach to effusive soundscapes has culminated in an eerie and unsettling opening that briskly escalates into a western-movie opening sequence, complete with melodic vocals and quick-pace drums. Taken from their upcoming record, “Western Approaches”, this new track is hot-off-the-heels from their American tour and sees the band bring the desert and rolling tumbleweed back in tow.
On the record, lead singer Francis Doran notes, “"Out of all of the tracks on Western Approaches, Godless is the one that showcases how we want to sound as a band the most. The wild western influences infused with stingray-esque drums and surf guitars made us feel like we were revisiting the roots of the bands DNA. This one kind of set the tone for the album for us."
Red Rum Club have had an impressive and nought-on-comparable rise through the music scene, from not long gone having played back-door venues (Night People, The Ferret) to next year’s headline show at their hometown’s M&S bank arena, the next few years are set to see the sextet skyrocket. Explosive and entirely stadium-worthy, the band have aptly upped the ante of anticipation for their upcoming record with “Godless”.
