Logic1000 - 'Grown On Me'
Logic1000 is back with a new electronic club banger, “Grown On Me,” via Therapy/Because Music, that contains a special message.
Berlin-based Samantha Poulter – aka Logic1000 – is a one-of-a-kind music producer and disc jockey. Originally from the land down under, she has become a regular on the Berlin music scene. Having not released any new music since her a-side “Can’t Stop Thinking About/Rush” in March of 2022, it was time for her to return. She achieved major success with her EP “In The Sweetness Of You” in 2021 and her aforementioned a-side. Poulter has since been named as one of Mixmag’s “DJ’s of the Year” and appointed as a Radio 1 “Future Artist.” Additionally, she has featured in a few end-of-year lists from Resident Advisor and The Vinyl Factory. Her performances at Primavella, Field Day, and Coachella last year, including a four-day residency at Phonox in London, have only made her flourish even more as an evolving artist.
“Grown On Me” is a song that will surely grow on its listeners with such a pulsating beat and the glitching lyric “You’ve grown on me” on repeat all throughout the track. Poulter says the lyric “has a very special, private meaning to me, that in fact came after choosing the sample.” Art and music should always contain an original part of the artist in it, and Poulter has effectively done this here. The music video for “Grown On Me” shows colourful, distorting flowers and a box containing nostalgic home video montages from Poulter’s childhood. Many of the flowers are dancing and flowering throughout the music video, creating a visual allusion to Poulter’s growth, youth, and femininity. The home videos act as a snapshot for viewers to get a closer glimpse into Poulter’s childlike innocence that she has held onto to this day. She says that this new hit “was written during a transformative period of my life. (Sonic PR, 2023)” It seems to me that Poulter was looking back on a younger version of herself and wanting to honour that child self with “Grown On Me,” while also looking back at how far she’s come. Something that many women can relate to, making it easy for this music to appeal to a wide audience. The overall vibe procured by this track is playful, energetic, and sentimental. Poulter says she hopes this song “uplifts you the way writing it uplifted me,” and it most certainly has.
This simple electronic beat, “Grown On Me,” has turned into a sweet, heartwarming message to that little girl who is still a part of Poulter, and a part of all women.
