Overpass - 'Beautiful'

Birmingham outfit Overpass gift the world their ‘Beautiful’ new single which sets up the release of their debut EP perfectly.

The four piece, comprising of Max Newy (vocals and guitar), India Armstrong (bass), Elliot Rawlings (lead guitar) and Jake Bishop (drums) have been touring relentlessly with a great variety of artists.

Despite the group not having an EP or album under their belt, Overpass have truly risen to incredible heights in what feels like an extremely short period. They have captured the attention of many. With the release of their first body of work ‘From the Night’ now in sight, with it set for release in February, the group have begun to unleash some incredible tracks for listeners to enjoy.

‘Beautiful’ is one of those that is destined to be on the group’s EP, and it has been performed at a great number of live shows. Hearing the track in its recorded form after being treated to it live is something special.

The track is everything you could ask for ahead of an EP release. It boasts everything brilliant about the group, with each band member truly showing the best of their abilities. Front-man Max Newy’s performance is incredible. He grips the attention of all from the first seconds.

Explosively ‘Beautiful’ choruses are the real focal point of this track. Newy belts out the words “We still need the chance to be beautiful, baby” as the rest of the group perfectly match his energy.

The drums of Bishop, and the bass of Armstrong combine to drive the track throughout, they display a really tight performance. Rawlings’ lead guitar, particularly during the choruses, is excellent, too. His emotive playing makes for the ultimate compliment to Newy’s admirable vocal range.

Being the second single to precede the group’s debut EP, there was great expectation of what lay in store. ‘Beautiful’ smashed any expectations that one could have. The track is sublime: it’s emotional, it’s honest, and-most importantly- it’s a track that fans can lose themselves too.

With work like this, it’s no wonder Overpass are sending shockwaves through the world of music. Don’t miss what they do next.
