Fletcher - 'Eras Of Us'

FLETCHER ruminates on the art of letting go as she enters a new chapter in ‘Eras Of Us’.

After postponing upcoming tour dates in September, many fans were left wondering when they would next hear from the pop powerhouse. Now, as 2024 looms, FLETCHER is back with a reminiscent offering to close out the year. And in true form, it comes equipped with an internet frenzy-inducing backstory.

“I was lucky enough to see The Eras Tour this summer, and I ran into someone from my past who was a great love.  Being at the same show and knowing that we were both scream singing all the lyrics written by an artist who has narrated so many of the romances throughout my life, the eras of our relationship rose and hit me like a wave.  But water can’t ever be held, and writing this song was my best attempt at creating the container to capture that moment in time even if it was the closing of a chapter.” she explains.

‘Eras Of Us’ begins as a sombre ballad, with FLETCHER’s voice floating above an undercurrent of crooning riffs. “How are you doin'? / Where have you been? / I’ve been practicin' this moment for like twenty-somethin’ years in my head” she lays out in the opening line. An intimate yet relatable admission – she instantly captivates the listener.

Led by the cinematic yet visceral songwriting that has already established her as a cultural force both within the queer community and beyond, it continues to cement FLETCHER as one of the most important rising voices. Co-produced and co-written by long-time collaborators Jennifer Decilveo, Tim Sommers, and Jeremy Dussolliet, the track masterfully places feelings of nostalgia and longing alongside an acceptance for time moving on.

‘Eras Of Us’ draws on the sonics developed within FLETCHER’s debut album ‘Girl Of My Dreams’, which arrived a little over a year ago. The ambient chorus sees the singer/songwriter further extend her repertoire for thought-provoking and equally heart-wrenching soundscapes, as previously navigated in ‘Better Version’ and ‘Birthday Girl’. Meanwhile, a cathartic bridge, propelled by searing guitars and crashing drums, channels the fiery pop-punk and pop-rock influences of ‘Becky’s So Hot’ and ‘Serial Heartbreaker’.

While her stage name can sometimes become an alter-ego for Jersey-born Cari Fletcher, ‘Eras Of Us’ feels as authentic as ever. A breathtaking testament to her past, FLETCHER solidifies her music trajectory.
