Trash Boat - 'Liar Liar'

Trash Boat’s latest single ‘Liar Liar’ takes a moment to reflect on the problems that arise from podcasts, along with the ways in which people use their platforms in ways that often spread harmful misinformation and bias.

November 30th saw Hertfordshire quintet Trash boat release their latest single ‘Liar Liar.’ 2023 has been an exceptionally busy year for Trash Boat; they’ve recently completed European tours with both The Offspring and I Prevail, along with making appearances at Slam Dunk – if that wasn’t enough for the St Albans five-piece, November 30th not only marks the release date of their latest song, it’s also the start of their UK tour with Don Broco.

Frontman Tobi Duncan explained that ‘Liar Liar’ is “an unloading of frustration surrounding modern ‘podcast bro’ culture.” He also added that it’s about “every team of morons talking about body count, sexual value, drop shipping, 3 am wake up routines and generally anything jarring and useless from people desperately trying to be relevant and controversial to get views.” It feels like these days, more often than not, we encounter at least one person this song could be describing – whether that’s online, or in person. With the rise in popularity of social media sites, as well as streaming platforms, we’ve inherently given platforms to people who may not have necessarily had the same kind of reach beforehand, and it’s so much easier for people to vocalise their opinions and beliefs on all kinds of topics – including ones they may not necessarily have the right to comment on.

The track vocalises the frustration we find ourselves experiencing when we come across people deliberately spreading misinformation, uncaring of how damaging the lies and prejudice they are spreading can be. It’s challenging to navigate an ever-changing society, when misinformation spreads so easily over social media and often bleeds into mainstream media too. Many of us can probably relate to Trash Boat’s frustrations, along with sharing the desire that these people would simply stop using their platforms in such harmful ways.

Trash Boat are bringing a particularly busy year for themselves to a close, and perhaps it’s needless to say, but whatever comes next from this band its bound to be exceptional. It'll be exciting to see what the new year brings for Trash Boat, and we can’t wait to join them on their next adventure!
