The Lemon Twigs - 'Any Time Of Day'
The brothers D’addario are back at it again with their dreamy second single ‘Any Time Of Day’ off their recently announced new record.
The track is totally reminisent of an era, a 70’s summer and The Midnight Special, with the dreamy harpsichord and soft percussion, and a bassline that runs throughout, evocative of Paul McCartney’s Wings - a genius product of Brian and Michael’s engineering. The real standout on ‘Any Time Of Day’ however is the harmonies, the brothers signature. Any Twigs track is always layered with the perfect blend of the two’s vocals, and this track is no different; a stunning mixture of something like The Monkees and The Carpenters, allowing the song to truly soar into the sublime.
Upon closer inspection, the lyrics show The Lemon Twigs in a soft light of vulnerability. The words in the verse are actually quite heartbreaking, with the opening line ‘they say that people pass away, to make a space for all the young ones’, a lovely, melancholy line. Which then leads into the delightful chorus, and quietly romantic bridge.
The Twigs, never shy about wearing their musical influences on their sleeve, often allow them to bleed through their sound, while still making their music wonderfully unique. ‘Any Time Of Day’ sounds like something that could be on Todd Rundgren’s 1972 ‘Something/Anything?’ record, a true compliment of their music.
‘Any Time Of Day’ was released on Monday, along with a psychedelic and charming music video of the brothers on a kind of surreal 60’s live television performance, directed by Ambar Navarro. Shortly after the release of their new single, the band announced their new record titled ‘Everything Harmony’ releasing on May 5th as well as new tour dates across the UK and Europe. It’s safe to say The Lemon Twigs are definitely ready to impress fans and music lovers alike, one song at a time.
