Teenage Dads - 'Midnight Driving'

With Melbourne four-piece Teenage Dads releasing their new single ‘Midnight Driving’ before of their fast-approaching EP ‘Midnight Driving’ out on the 3rd of March.

Hailing from Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, the breakthrough indie-act are showing no signs of slowing down Teenage Dads were also nominated for ‘Best New Artist’ in the 2022 Rolling Stone Awards Australia which was alongside names including Genesis Owusu. This rock band kicked off 2022 by playing to some of the biggest audiences to date as special guests on ‘Lim Cordiale’s 14 Steps to a Better You’, national tour in Australia, which was followed up with a feature slot on ‘Spacey Jane’s Here Comes Everybody’ national arena tour. Then wanting to give their fans the full headline experience, Teenage Dads kicked off their 11 stop ‘Exit Sign’ tour over May and June 2022 and then wrapping up their 2022 the ‘Ready Teddy Go Tour’. 

The new single ‘Midnight Driving’ layers extraterrestrial-eque synths over a slower, bass-heavy melody with melancholy lyricism, this single introduces a new side and sound to Teenage Dads. Setting the scene for the remaining unreleased tracks on the forthcoming EP.  Featuring recent singles, ‘Hey, Diego!’, ‘Teddy’, and ‘Exit Sign’, the upcoming ‘Midnight Driving’ EP will also feature additional unreleased tracks that take a slight sonic detour from their distinctive upbeat, experimental sound and storylines. Which offers something new and electrifying for fans by taking a slower, softer and more synth-heavy route. 

Teenage Dads explain that the EP is about perspective, and how things look from one point of view, and how this can look from one point of view, and how it changes overtime from another outlook. They continued that the songs feel like diary entries, documented internally, like conversations you have with yourself when you go Midnight Driving, as a constant, internal form of therapy almost.

The single, ‘Midnight Driving’ has been a favourite at the band’s live shows, with fans learning the lyrics from live recordings and flooding Teenage Dads social media posts with comments demanding a drop-date for the track. It also follows from the band’s first-time appearance on triple j’s ironic ‘Like a version’ segment in Australia, where they covered the Buggles, ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’.

Known for their energetic and dynamic live shows, Teenage Dads will also be bringing their out-of-this-world performance to the UK and Ireland this Spring, which will be joined by Lime Cordiale as special guests.
