Cloe Wilder – ‘Remember Me’
16-year-old alternative pop artist Cloe Wilder has released the second single from her upcoming sophomore EP (details to be confirmed), ‘Remember Me’.
The first single from the record, ‘House by the Water’, gained positive attention on Wilder’s TikTok, with the dreamy folk track featuring similarities to her latest release.
The track is a mix of hazy nostalgia and whispery, yet controlled vocals, with Wilder’s celestial tone feeling reminiscent of pop sensation Billie Eilish’s early work.
The graceful lyricism blends beautifully with a soft yet driven guitar instrumental, and the folk-inspired sound is wistful yet comforting.
The track touches on themes of youth and childhood, with Wilder stating: ‘I don’t often write about my family, but I wanted to capture my childhood with ‘Remember Me.’ I wrote it to resemble a lullaby, creating this soundtrack to my very own supercut. When I listen to it, for a couple of minutes, every home movie comes back to life’.
Wilder has been inspired by Lana Del Rey from an early age, and this is clear in her music. It is especially apparent in her first album, Teenage Lullabies, released in 2021 in collaboration with Sam Nicolosi, who she has worked with again on her latest project.
Wilder, like many modern teenagers, finds comfort in sadness and melancholy and noted that she had recently been influenced by Elliott Smith and Phoebe Bridgers, which is evident in Remember Me.
Cloe commented: ‘Being in this world of sad songs, I feel like there’s a way to present it. I think that there’s a way to be really blunt about it, and still make everything pretty. I’ve just tried to be super honest’.
Wilder is one to watch – at only 16, she has an impressive discography, and her upcoming EP is definitely a record to look out for.
