girli - 'Imposter Syndrome'

Pushing the boundaries between explorative pop and deep-cutting electronica reminiscent of Let’s Eat Grandma and Halsey, the London-based artist girli (Amelia Toomey) uses powerful self-introspection to fuel poppy, upbeat cuts.

Having an album and a handful of EPs already to her name, girli is once again making waves with her preppy and raw new release ‘Imposter Syndrome’. Honest and entirely personal, the track focusses on the curtails on mental health, the fear of underachieving and taking the wrong paths in life.

Talking on the track, girli divulges; “I was overthinking everything, feeling like a fake, scared that I was an underachiever and that everybody knew it and was laughed behind my back about it. I kind of go through life feeling like everybody else has a guidebook, and I’m just making it up as I go and getting it wrong. This song is about wanting to run away because of that feeling and being so unsure of yourself it scares you.”

Complete with thrumming drum track and infectious lyrics, “Imposter Syndrome” offers a wholly relatable insight to the pitfalls of it’s title: ‘Maybe I’m a poser / What if I’m a fake’. Coming in at just over two and a half minutes, the short but sweet track is overflowing with incredibly pop energy.

Undeniably vibrant and infectious, girli’s latest feat is one to push her into the limelight.
