amy michelle - 'the bottom of the well'
Since the success of her 2021 single ‘the bottom of the well’, amy michelle has been navigating her artistry and sound, resulting in her latest single ‘ode to praying to the answering machine’ which is set to feature on the upcoming EP ‘felicity stories’.
Exploring the unhealthy nature behind obsessive loving, Michelle has released an overtly thought provoking and heartfelt single that gives a taste of the expected expressive future work under her sleeve. ‘ode to praying’ follows suite with michelle’s past work, a track that holds both an ethereal and moody beauty to it sonically.
The slow and lulling beat accompanied with blunt rhythmic acoustic guitar, and an almost magical set of lead guitars filled with light harmonics leaves the listener feeling as if they’re floating on air. This track feels like a companion on the rainy walk home, with obvious ties to the likes of Phoebe Bridgers in this track’s instrumentation, and Pretty Sick it's DIY-esque production. However, it must be stated that the likes of Olivia Rodrigo can also be heard in Michelle’s beautiful vocals; powerful and painful.
Lyrically, michelle’s talent genuinely shines. ‘ode to praying’ is rooted in the obsessive nature surrounding love, giving your all to someone and feeling ultimately abandoned in the end, a track that is fuelled by self reflection and honesty.
michelle has delivered an extremely atmospheric track that converses on a topic that many will relate to, resulting in an exciting body of work that teases her upcoming EP ‘felicity stories’, which is expected to be an exciting add on to michelle’s cultivated world. Reminiscent of the stories told through her fairy tale-like lens, amy michelle is doing an amazing job of gracing us with thought provoking, honest, and fresh new music.
