The Empty Page - 'Level Sedentary'
Manchester’s The Empty Page ‘celebrate idleness’ with their latest release ‘Level Sedentary’.
Vocalist and songwriter Kel gave the fans great insight into the track, stating that she heard John Cooper Clarke say something along the lines of: “You need two things to be a writer, a pen and idleness” and added to his idea saying that she wanted to celebrate idleness with the group’s latest release.
It perfectly ticks all the boxes for a track aiming to do this, it’s thought-proving, right from the opening riff, which is so unique. The riff repeats itself and it’ll have listeners attention from the get-go. Quickly followed by the opening vocals, the track begins.
‘I’ve got no inclination to drag myself out of my bed’. The opening lyrics completely set the tone. You can’t get more straight up than that, can you?
Since their arrival on the scene in 2016, the group have been so relatable for fans. This track offers even more in this field, as its message is so clear. That message of idleness, the acceptance of it being OK, is something that’ll resonate with all who listen.
The track is the perfect contradiction to the group’s prior release, ‘Dry Ice’, which is all about going out. This one is about staying in. The group really are exercising their ability to conquer all kinds of tracks. Even within the latest release, they go from the slow, perfectly repetitive guitar riffs in the initial periods of the track, to the fast and unpredictable ending. It’s the perfect blend of idleness and chaos.
Having worked with some huge names on the last album, it’s no wonder that they’re progressing with such ease, putting out extremely clever tracks as and when they please!
Based off the singles, The Empty Page’s next record will be something to behold! Due in spring of this year, it’s sure to be a fan favourite.
