Live Review: Wunderhorse - Cluny, Newcastle 28/03/2023
After a tremendous stint of support slots for the likes of the well-loved five-piece, postpunk band Fontaines DC at the end of last year, Wunderhorse embarked on their highly anticipated and biggest headline UK tour to date, and we had the chance to see them and their incredible set Live from the Cluny in Newcastle.
Playing to a more intimate venue then they have become accustomed to from their previous support gigs, the band still showed their capability to captivate an audience, maintaining an energy that is rarely seen with bands so early into their career. With their hints of classic guitar riffs and stunning harmonies, this band know how to draw you in with their mesmerising instrumental and vocal talents. With front man, Jacob Slater leading the way, in a fashion some may call ’derranged’ or maybe even brilliant, the band thrash themselves around the stage with this tremendous and infectious energy that is so authentic and raw, every emotion is being shown by not only their on-stage presence but through the reflection in their melodic instrumentals and song writing, really making the tracks from their more recently released debut album ‘Cub’ come to life before your very eyes, a talent which has been so sought for in a rock band such as this one.
It is very clear that Wunderhorse are raring and ready to give the people what they want; a gig made up of elements for everyone to enjoy. Upon looking around any Wunderhorse audience, there never seems to be anyone that isn’t impressed by the sheer amazing performance being put on for them by Jacob and his crew. And with such a tight network and community of fans being built up online and by these intimate and magical performances, who knows where this string of such successful gigs will take them next.
Wunderhorse are truly a spectacle to behold as a band so fresh, but are proving, with each new track released and each new performance, they are band to not be forgotten.
