Binki - 'Doomsday'

Binki releases wonderful new single ‘Doomsday’ following the announcement of his upcoming EP ‘Antennae’ due to release on the 16th of June via the Fader Label.

The new single ‘Doomsday’ follows the release of singles ‘Rocket Ship’ and ‘Hotel Window’ for his upcoming EP release of ‘Antennae’. The highly-anticipated EP is a collection of cathartic off-the-cuff anecdotes with deeper meanings that zero in on where Binki stands in the world right now. Baraka Ongeri also known as Binki is a first generation American, his family originates from Kenya who grew up in Pennsylvania before he moved to New York in 2018, after getting his degree in acting at UNC Greensboro. Binki retains that same sense of drama and voyeurism within his songs, with the sound that remains urgent and increasingly unbound. Binki’s debut EP ‘Motor Function’ was supported from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and 6Music, Apple and FIFA, with tracks like ‘heyBB!’ and ‘Sea Sick’ going viral Binki surpassed 150 million streams.

The highly anticipated EP ‘Antennae’ goes further with new material written between Los Angeles, New York and London, the single ‘Hotel Window’ witnessed Binki at his most self-deprecating as he vents on intimate social anxiety. The other single ‘Rocket Shop’ follows a blast of alt-pop with the track being about overcompensating for the lack of confidence until one day, you let it all go and take flight.

The brand new single ‘Doomsday’ is one of a kind as it blends shimmering Britpop and easy-going pop bravado into a distinctive sound. Binki confesses that the track is a moment of reflection and nonchalance recalling the existential doubt of Kurt Vile, as he says “the title says a lot about this song. Doomsday. It’s like, would you want to know the day the world’s gonna end. I think uncertainty is the scariest thing in the world. People are completely paralyzed by it. To an extent we all shape our lives around maintaining a certain level of certainty. People stay in shitty relationships, just because it’s comfortable.” Binki continues that he has always tried to let love guide his decisions because he thinks that you should let love lead you as much as it can.

Having opened for The 1975 earlier this year and cut his teeth with live shows alongside the likes of Alex G, Gus Dapperton, King Princess, Role Model and Glass Animals. Leaving high hopes for Binki’s US headline tour this June, with a 16 –date which is on sale now.
