Introducing #263 - BRACCO

French post-punk duo BRACCO hit the UK for a string of shows. We had a chat ahead of the shows.

Working with the electronic producer Paulie Jan for their first LP, Bracco came up with the sound that faithfully portrays their music. A logical and sensitive mix between dark club music, and deep post-punk. Grave, their first album, makes reference to the multiple dramas that have punctuated the group's life, and forms a skilful deconstruction of references.

In 2022, the duo, based in the venue La Station Gare des Mines, in Paris, France, released their second album Dromonia and signed on Born Bad Records (FR). Even more rallying than the previous, it’s the perfect slice of electronic post-punk that draws from the likes of Chris Carter, Tricky, and Factory Floor.

And now, the duo are coming to the UK in support of said album for a trio of shows next month. Kicking things off at The Grace in London before taking the own brand of chaos to Wales for a show at Le Pub in Newport and Focus Wales Festival the following day. We caught up with them ahead of the tour.

Hey there BRACCO – how are you ? So your album DROMONIA is out now – can you tell us what it is about ?

Dromonia is about mental health, if you’re sick try it, if you’re not sick get sick you’ll feel better.

It is basically post punk electronic music to make a small club out of your living room. Love songs for the freaks.

Where are you from and what are your favourite things to do there ?

From the south suburbs of Paris, the place you see on television with buildings and dark people, so I like being dark over there, and also drink wine cause I’m French.

What are the key influences when it comes to your music ?

Ben Wallers for the mind and Genesis P-Orridge for the sound. The Cramps for everything else

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before ?

We try to mix techno and punk music but in a good way, it is transcendental, it is something to live rather than something you listen to.

Now the album is out, I believe you’re about to hit the UK on a small run of shows, what can you tell us about those and what can we expect from them ?

I hope my english words won’t sound silly for you guys, and we hope to meet a lot of beautiful English boys and girls who like dancing, It is all about party and dance.

Finally, where can people get the tickets ?

You can get the tickets on line, on www.tryfrenchmusic.fr
