The Mysterines - 'Begin Again'
The Mysterines ‘Begin Again’ with their latest single, which arrives at a time where the group are supporting the gigantic Arctic Monkeys.
The track differs from what we have become used to from Merseyside’s The Mysterines. They seem to have gone from the fast-paced, head-rocking, face-melting tracks to a slower paced, yet equally as brilliant, number. ‘Begin Again’ opens with an emphatic drum section that is quickly matched by a Strokes-esque guitar riff, before frontwoman Lia Metcalfe takes centre stage with a brilliant vocal performance.
The lead vocalist delivers an undeniable performance that is totally gripping. Listeners will be unable to ignore the lyrics of the new track. The repetition of the words “The signs they begin again” being a poignant part of the song. Metcalfe seems to grow in emotion as the words are repeated each time. There is a real feel of desperation, angst and frustration in the vocal performance, and it makes for a brilliant track. The rest of the band match these heights, with fuzzy guitars, driving basslines and the relentless drumming. The track really is the full article.
‘Begin Again’ is the perfect track to accompany The Mysterines’ run of UK shows with indie legends Arctic Monkeys. It demonstrates the lengths of their talents; they can do it all. Whether that be a fast, punky track or a slower and more thought-provoking number.
When speaking on the writing of the latest single, Frontwoman Lia Metcalfe stated that “’Begin Again’ felt like finding a key to the spirit realm the evening it arrived.” This feels so true. The track really does feel as though it holds the keys to a higher place, and it is sure to be a number that will send fans into another place.
Adding to this, the track is accompanied by a brilliant music video. It solely depicts the frontwoman and it really seems to take listeners through a range of emotions, from confusion, to anger, to pain. It is the ideal video to accompany the track.
The Mysterines have returned with the perfect track, and fans at Arctic Monkeys’ UK tour dates can look forward to hearing ‘Begin Again’ at shows soon.
