Abbie Ozard - 'i don't know happiness without you'
Abbie Ozard has released her dreamy single, ‘i don’t know happiness without you’, via record label House Anxiety.
The Manchester-based singer-songwriter explores themes of friendship and the awkward transition into young adulthood on the track, with the fresh indie tune combining a hazy soundscape with Ozard’s emotionally charged lyricism.
A sunny, crisp guitar melody perfectly compliments the artist’s soft, sonorous vocals, with the accompanying music video featuring a nostalgic celebration of girlhood.
The track is a really promising single, with the themes Ozard chooses to sing about being intensely relatable for her target audience. The production quality is crisp, with producer Ben Matravers capturing an indie feel that is sure to appeal to fans of the genre.
Speaking on the single, Abbie said: “The track comments on how confusing, difficult and chaotic life can be in your twenties, with pressure coming in from every direction. I find that there’s an expectation for you to have your life figured out when really you still feel 18. Essentially all you want to do is have fun but you need to be fully focused on your career, aspirations and everything in between.”
She continued: “Unlike before, I now find letting loose and having fun really difficult as I have an overriding sense of guilt when I do. Maybe that’s because I don't feel like I fully have my ‘life together’ as such, so I don't want to waste time. But there are moments with friends that I just think fuck it. I find these moments so valuable, and that’s what gets me through everything.”
The tune follows the zodiac-themed EP Water Based Lullabies, released last year, and the evolution of her sound as she grows as a musician is evident. A previous single, ‘Ford (drive)’, was featured on BBC introducing earlier this year.
The singer did her first headline tour in December 2022 and will be supporting Briston Maroney on an upcoming winter tour in the UK and Europe. The tour opens on Halloween in Brighton and concludes in Berlin on the 15th of November.
With Ozard’s chosen genre of music becoming increasingly saturated, it will be interesting to watch how the singer navigates future releases.
