Enola - 'It's Not Love'
ENOLA, the artist blending underground genres, returns with a captivating listen - 'It's Not Love', their first single since their popular 2023 EP, 'All Is Forgiven'. In their latest Instagram post, they share: “It’s a song about how we stay in situations & dynamics that don’t serve us, because we have deep rooted bonds and attachments to people, places and the past.” If you find yourself asking yourself why am I doing this? Why am I here? Why am I investing in this person? Does this make me happy? Then this song will definitely resonate with you.
ENOLA has already captured mass audiences by exploring the complexities of messy situationships and relationships that persist out of comfort rather than connection. Speaking about ‘It’s Not Love’, ENOLA comments : “It’s about shaking the habitual tie. The song is about how we stay in situations & dynamics that don’t serve us because we have deep rooted bonds and attachments to people, places and the past. Sometimes, it’s not real love that keeps us in situations, but more fear, guilt & inability to let go.”
On 'It's Not Love', ENOLA switches up their style by blending more electronic elements with their usual post-punk sound. This change brings them back to their origins as an electronic producer and DJ. While post-punk is still at the heart of the song, it now includes synths and electronic drums. You can sense the track drawing inspiration from bands like Joy Division and Idles - punk music that really strikes you in the feels.
ENOLA has always delivered hard-hitting tracks, like ‘Strange Comfort’ and ‘All Is Forgiven’, with a raw vulnerability, offering relief for self-inflicted wounds - and this track is no exception. There is a sense of balance between intense drama and gritty reality in their music. It’s as though ENOLA is screaming from the rooftops while digging into the pavement's cracks simultaneously.
You can find 'It's Not Love' on all streaming platforms. If you're enjoying their music, don't miss the chance to see them live on tour this year.
