Jake Bugg - 'Zombieland'
Jake Bugg has come a long way since his breakout track “Lightning Bolt”, and not just in popularity. Moving away from his signature country sound that dominated his first two records, Bugg quickly found himself enveloped in a tonal shift that led to collaborations with the likes of Tinie Tempah and quickly steamrolled into the electronica-infused, heavily-more-upbeat-than-we’re-used-to fifth album “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning”.
Having been a fan since his hayday, his latest venture “Zombieland”, is a bittersweet departure of numbers such as “Pine Trees” and “Broken, and sees Bugg a little less Ben Howard, and a little more The Strypes.
Plucked from his upcoming record, “A Modern Day Distraction” (slated for release late September), “Zombieland” is a socio-political commentary on the working class having to “work to live” without a decent work-life balance, all the while, the government keep increasing retirement age. Not one to shy away from speaking his mind, Bugg notes; “Another day without a dream / He works his fingers to the bone”.
The pleading narrative is supported by gritty guitars, insistent drum accompaniment’s, and Bugg’s signature vocals. Sincere and undeniably infectious, this latest record is set to be his most explorative and experimental yet.
To support the release of the new record, Jake Bugg is performing this winter at a handful of UK venues:
