Amyl and The Sniffers - 'Big Dreams'

Australian punk rock band Amyl and The Sniffers lure fans towards their upcoming album with brand new single, ‘Big Dreams’.

After the release of their self-titled album in 2019 (winning the year’s ARIA Music Awards Best Rock Album category), Amyl and The Sniffers have been on the rise to world fame. Often finding themselves deep within the irresistible energy of 70s rock while still maintaining a modern kick, the band have once again proven their dominance in the punk scene and smashed it with new single ‘Big Dreams’.

The opening guitar riff flows in with confidence, setting the scene for a solid, infectious tune. It’s not long until the instantly recognisable vocals of Amy Taylor join alongside a pulsing guitar rhythm, finding a perfect balance between aggression and charm. Lyrically, ‘Big Dreams’ is a powerful, no-nonsense track that weaves in and out of modern issues and future ambitions. Within the first verse, Taylor brings up the subject of the cost-of-living crisis with lyrics: ‘You’re strapped for cash / And well you don’t know where to start / It isn’t easy with the price of living’.

Speaking on the issue, she says: ‘This song was written because a lot of people in my life are struggling financially, and it's really hard to make your dreams come true when you're trying to get by day-to-day. But when I think of my friends doing what they love, and I see how good they are at it, I just know they've never been dull, they've always been lit, and there's nothing that will break that or take it away from them.’ Shining a light on a vulnerable topic with such confidence really showcases the inclusive and relatable nature of Amyl and The Sniffers - allowing millions of fans globally to tap into a strong connection with the band.

Approaching the second chorus there’s an undercurrent of excitement beginning to bubble behind the scenes. Suddenly the driving basslines, punchy drums, and searing guitar riffs morph into something on a whole different level – completely letting go and blending seamlessly to create an explosive soundscape. Layered vocals resonate as a care-free attitude upon the chant-like lyrics: ‘You wanna get outta here? / You wanna get outta here? / You wanna get outta here?’

Accompanying this section is a 70s country-rock-esque guitar solo which perfectly matches the visuals of the music video – letting loose racing through the dry heat of the desert on motorcycles, of which Amy Taylor described ‘fun as hell’ to do.

Amyl and The Sniffers have always been a band that has thrived off the energy of a live crowd, practically feeding off of each other with every lyric sung to them. ‘Big Dreams’ is destined for the stage and to be met with the open arms of an eager crowd. The powerful guitar chord striking, high energy drums, and gritty vocals are irresistible and are sure to become a staple within future shows. With already 13 sold out shows on their upcoming 2024/2025 tour, catching Amyl and The Sniffers in all their glory live won’t be something to miss.
