Run Remedy - 'Kerosene'
Run Remedy's Latest Single Kerosene: A Symphony of Grief, Resilience, Love, and Queer Joy.
A Journey Through Struggle and Celebration.
2025 is abuzz with the latest offering from New-Jersey born, Manchester-based artist Run Remedy. Her newest single, Kerosene, is a poignant and powerful exploration of grief and love as she explores the resilience it takes to move on from tragedy. As the anticipation builds for her debut album release in June, Kerosene stands as a testament to her artistic prowess and emotional depth.
From the first atmospheric note, listeners are drawn into a world where sorrow and joy coexist, where every lyric and melody resonates with the complexities of the human heart. Run Remedy has spoken on the meaning of the song:
“Kerosene is about that bright flame of being young, filled with the promise of life. It’s about the destruction and terror of that day, as well as the brightness and life that came afterward.”
The track is a personal reflection on a trauma that befell the artist at a young age when her and her first love, Lily were in a tragic car accident resulting in Lily’s unfortunate death. The song finds Run Remedy navigating her way through the Swiss army knife of emotions that grief leaves at your feet while trying to understand what queerness means to her.
Musically it is layered atmospherically with synths penetrating the air, alongside the heightened ethereal vocals and lo-fi drums which brings to mind artists such as Weyes Blood and Sufjan Stevens. The fractured complexity of the music leans into the emotional nuance of the lyrics as you feel the artist sing through tears, you’re not quite sure whether to be happy or sad.
Kerosene is released following the 2024 single Disciple which deals with similar themes of identity and queerness but in a more melancholic style. Contrastingly, Kerosene builds to a cathartic, joyous crescendo emulating a feeling of relief or even ecstasy. We join Run Remedy in her acceptance of herself and her reflection of love lost and the confusing and sometimes wonderful things that can bring to the surface- in our case it has brought this lovely tune.
