Soccer Mommy - 'She Is (Stripped)'
The renowned Nashville songwriter announces new single from upcoming stripped-back version of her last record Evergreen
Soccer Mommy is the longtime musical project of singer/songwriter Sophie Allison, her first release dating back to 2015, since then having toured with the likes of Slowdive, Stephen Malkmus, Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski along with releasing four full-length studio albums.
Her latest album Evergreen has seen her reach new heights in her musical career, described as a return to her roots in bedroom indie rock that first drew her fans into orbit, tackling her reflections on grief and loneliness with a lo-fi sound that makes for a soft and soothing, yet melancholic listen.
She Is (stripped)” is the second piece released from the cut back version of the album, albeit this song never made it to the original tracklist.
The song shines a light on the more vulnerable and unfiltered side of Allison’s songwriting which has shown to work wonders so many times before, this piece very much fitting in with the style of some of her earliest releases.
“This song didn’t make the cut for Evergreen but it was always really special to me,” she explains, “I think the stripped version does it justice while staying close to the demo”.
It is this commitment to staying truthful to the first instincts of her songwriting which so often leads to some of the most ardent and hard-hitting songs for Soccer Mommy, and this latest single could very well be an example of that.
Soccer Mommy is currently touring the UK, with further shows in Europe across the next few weeks.
