BC Camplight - 'Where You Taking My Baby?'
Virtuoso songwriter releases second single from upcoming album A Sober Conversation
Originally hailing from New Jersey, BC Camplight is the project of Brian James Christinzio formed over 23 years ago, since then releasing six full-length studio albums alongside various tours around the world as well as relocating to Manchester, where he is now based.
His last record The Last Rotation Of The Earth peaked at 31 on the UK Albums Chart, and revolved around the wreckage following the end of Chritinzio’s long-term relationship, described as an emotionally honest take on coming to terms with the feelings of despair and trying to move on.
Last month he released his first single since then, which featured The Last Dinner Party’s Abigail Morris, and was received with critical acclaim from the likes of NME and Clash as well as being playlisted on Radio 6.
His newest record documents the past two years of his life, finally confronting a shocking childhood trauma whilst embracing sobriety in what is sure to be a riveting and uncompromising record.
“Where You Taking My Baby?” deals with attempts at acceptance of these past events, as he confronts a man named Michael and offers his adult perspective on what happened all those years ago.
The soft, neatly layered melodies are gracefully followed by lush guitars in what is a gentle introduction to the song, before the soar of the drums usher in an intense middle segment, culminating in Christinzio facing his unpleasant memories head on with the yells of “Let it out”.
BC Camplight tour Europe this September, as well as a lengthy UK tour later on in November. A Sober Conversation is out via Bella Union on the 27th of June.
