Don Broco - 'Disappear'
Don Broco’s new single “Disappear” is nothing short of hypnotic.
Don Broco have been on fire as of late, having an extremely busy festival season playing heavy hitters like Download, Slam Dunk and the launch platform of countless modern icons, Warped Tour. This summer, they have seen them take on all new faces and wear just about every hat you can as a musician. They blend brooding and punchy vocals in a style reminiscent of Limp Bizkit, while incorporating modern influences into the track. “Disappear” is a beautiful dance partner for the other new singles as it brings more variety into the fold and flexes their creative muscles.
Disappear begins with occult rhythmic chanting before breaking into very heavily pop-influenced vocals over a 2010’s Maroon 5 808 pattern before drawing the energy out of you with a deep and soulful vocal part accompanied by a disgusting breakdown to tie the chorus together, this contrast of raw power and pleasing vocals creates a special energy for the track that is increasingly rare in the digital age and takes a vast amount of talent to pull off. This then pulls into the bridge, using the same format as the chorus but dialling up the power. meanspirited bass notes and serrated guitar notes tear through your headphones, forcing you into a subtle headbang, something that Don Broco have seemingly mastered in recent years. After rinsing and repeating its shapeshifting patterns, the marching drums draw to a close and finish the song on a beautiful fade out, pieced together with a breakdown of emphatic fills and aggressive chord progressions. This ability to blend genres to create something new is how so many of my all-time favourites have graced our ears. Thankfully, you cannot kill Nu-Metal as bands like Don Broco take the rule book, drown it in petrol and drop a lighter on it, creating an all-new anthology of modern rap-influenced metalcore. Every track this band releases is deceptive and glorious.
If you can get out to catch the blended magic of a Don Broco show, they are out on tour across America over the autumn and return to the UK again shortly after in December. Their shows are nothing short of chaos and bring a comforting level of danger with them to every stage they grace. Do not miss the opportunity to experience the raw craftsmanship live in the flesh; you will not regret it.
