Foo Fighters - 'Your Favourite Toy'

A new era has begun for the rock and roll godfathers with their new track ‘Your Favourite Toy’.

Longstanding heroes of the wider rock genre, Foo Fighters, are back again with more tantalising show announcements and a fresh take on a sound that has spanned 3 decades. The title track of their upcoming album,’ Your Favourite Toy feels like a classic Foos track with an all-new coat of paint. The guitar parts are segmented into their usual power/barre chord segments that march forward with integrity and intertwine themselves with the background acoustic, adding an extra level of depth and identity to help support the fast-picking riffs that emanate on and off throughout the verses and chorus. This song has a more externally influenced feel to it; it seems as though the band has plucked tones from adjacent bands like Queens Of The Stone Age and even smaller projects like Bad Nerves. The distorted and mordant vocals carry whispers of these bands while still being an easily identifiable Foo's track. The biggest standout for me is newcomer Ilan Rubin on drums; his energetic and pulsating sense of rhythm is the force of propulsion for this track. The consistent emphasis on the bass drum and hi-hat playing off against each other in rhythmic stabs of metallic and fast-paced adrenaline really enriches this track.

Foo Fighters are one of those bands that, much like you rock and roll older brother who has gone from baggy jeans, to skinny jeans, to camo trousers, have succinct and identifiable sounds that correlate with certain decades of surrounding influence and sound, and this constant pulling from peers, whether it be a band they loved as a kid or a band they can't stop hearing round the house from their own children, creates an ever changing ebb and flow of sound that helps create not only fresh bangers but points in time and that is something that this track has done perfectly.

There is an endless amount of fun on the horizon for this band with the new album ‘Your Favourite Toy’, including a European tour later this year as well as some absolutely unbelievable shows in smaller venues like Manchester's O2 Ritz, London's Shepards bush empire and Dublin's Academy. These small shows will accompany their European tour and will hold a special place in the hearts of the lucky handful that managed to get hold of these last-minute tickets. I love when bands this size remain so connected to the scene that they exist within, as it shows that not all of music is a teenager on TikTok trying to make an overproduced single with a great 15 seconds they can use for clips, this attention and care for the audience, and consistent want to provide memorable experiences in which they use to truly connect with their audience makes them standout above the rest and shows that there is still passion for the music. So, if you managed to get tickets for the private shows, I will eternally envy you, and if you got tickets for the UK shows, I’ll catch you in the monkey wrench pits somewhere between elation and exhaustion.
