Aubory Bugg - 'the one you want to lose'

Aubory Bugg is not “the one you want to lose”!

21 year old indie folk and alt-country Nashville singer, Aubory Bugg pours her heart out with her latest single “the one you want to lose”, an anthem to heartbreak.

Recognized by the Rolling Stone as a must-listen for the week of its release, “the one you want to lose” pulls listeners in instantly with the very first note she sings with her Southern twang. The single touches upon the loss of a relationship that did not work out and trying to come to terms with the loss. “the one you want to lose” is filled with raw and unapologetic emotions as she sings over the drums and her guitar, asking “how come I, I’m the one you want ‘til I’m the one you want to lose?”

Growing up in a conservative tight-knit Illinois town as a queer teen, feeling as if she did not belong, Bugg channels all of her experiences into her musics, stating “I wanted to fit in so badly, but at the same time I knew I wasn’t meant to stay — and I think that tension really shaped the way I write and how I see the world — I think everything I make comes from that place of wanting to be as honest as possible about where I’m at, even when it’s uncomfortable.”

Buggs vocals have been compared to those of Joni Mitchell and Phoebe Bridgers, where her voice in “the one you want to lose” holds confidence, power, and sadness. Bugg’s emotionally honest songs, unique blend of indie rock and folk pop, and powerful crystalline voice will stop you dead in your tracks.

The music video consists of a simple yet effective shot through the window as we watch Bugg process her lingering emotions though her guitar playing. Though her relationship has ended, she feels as if she is watching her ex’s life through a window, and is hurt that they are moving on while Buggs is still trying to process her emotions. Because, how can you move on when you “lost a lover, lost a friend” you would probably want to “go back again.”

With the acoustic guitar, drum hits, background vocals, and longing vocals “How am I going to give up? Going to let you go forever?” and “You always said I could do better. I said I don't care. I just want you” the single would fit perfectly in a playlist alongside Noah Kahn and Hozier.
